Cozy games for winding down at night

September 16, 2026 · Mikkel Sørensen

Not every game should get your heart racing. Some of my favorite phone sessions happen in bed, lights off, playing something that asks almost nothing of me. Cozy games are a genre unto themselves now, and they're perfect for this.

The ideal bedtime game has no timers, no fail states, and a soundtrack you'd happily fall asleep to. Management sims, gentle adventures, and tidy little builders all fit. The best ones also let you turn off notifications so they're not pinging you at midnight demanding attention.

There's a practical bonus: these games are usually kind to your battery because they're mostly static screens and soft animation. You can play for a while without the phone heating up against your face, which matters more than you'd think when you're half asleep.

If you only install one thing from this category, pick something with a clear end to each session — a day cycle, a chapter, a chore list. That natural stopping point is what actually gets you to put the phone down and sleep.
